Former Bison student-athletes Desiree Scott, TJ Sanders and Tyler Mislawchuk to represent Canada at Rio 2016 Olympics Games from August 5-21

In addition, former Bison coach Derek Ingram will represent Canada in a coaching role

The Rio 2016 Olympics Games run from August 5-21 and there will be three former University of Manitoba Bisons student-athletes involved along with one former Bison coach will represent Team Canada.

In women's soccer, former Manitoba Bisons player and coach Desiree Scott is part of Canada's women's soccer team.
This is Scott's second consecutive selection to the national Olympic squad as part of bronze medal team at London 2012 Olympic Games. 

In addition, former Bisons TJ Sanders in men's volleyball and Tyler Mislawchuk in men;s triathlon both were at Manitoba and will compete in their first Olympics. On the coaching side, former Bison coach and co-founder of the Bison golf team Derek Ingram will represent Canada as head coach of Canada's men's golf Olympic team.

Scott, 28, has appeared in over 100 matches (112 as of July 23, 2016) and made 78 starts for Canada's national women's soccer senior team since 2010 after establishing a huge imprint on the Manitoba Bisons women's soccer program as a player during her illustrious five-year university career (2005-09).
The Winnipeg native was also selected as 2012 Manitoba's Female Athlete of the Year by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. The 2009-10 Bison Sports Female Athlete of the Year, Scott earned four total conference All-Star recognition along with being named 2005 Canada West Rookie of the Year plus 2009, 2008 CIS First Team All-Canadian. The midfielder has registered the most points and assists in a Bison career with 56 points (31 goals, 25 assists) in 64 conference regular season games while team MVP three times (2005, '06, '10). Scott also was part of the Bison women's soccer coaching staff during the 2011 and 2012 season.

Sanders, 24, played one season with the Bisons in the 2009-10 season and was a setter. He registered 327 assists along with 71 digs, 21 overall blocks, ten service aces, eight kills while playing in 17 of 20 conference regular season matches. Mislawchuk, 21, competed with the Bison men's swim team during the 2012-13 season. Ingram was part of the Bison golf program from its inception in 1999 to 2009.

Bison Notes: The Bison women's soccer team will watch Canada versus Australia to cheer on Scott and Team Canada in first Olympic match at University of Manitoba Fort Garry campus in Frank Kennedy Centre building (Room 133) from 1-3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, August 3.
