Bison alum Desiree Scott wins second consecutive Olympic bronze medal when Canada women’s soccer team defeated host Brazil 2-1 in bronze medal match at Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Scott starts and plays bronze medal match and five of six matches during 2016 Olympics

At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, former Manitoba Bisons player and Bison coach Desiree Scott was in the starting lineup for Canada women's soccer team when they captured a second consecutive Olympic bronze medal with a thrilling 2-1 victory over host Brazil in the bronze medal match at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday, August 19.

This was Scott's second consecutive bronze medal as she was also part of London 2012 Olympic Games when Team Canada won bronze medal against France.

During the 2016 Olympics, Scott started and played in five of the six matches including all three final matches (she also started and played all six matches in 2012 Olympics).
She played an integral role as a midfielder with solid tackles and defending throughout the 90 minutes bronze medal match in Brazil and throughout this year's edition of the Olympics.

Scott, 29, has now made 117 appearances with 83 starts for Canada's national women's soccer senior team since 2010 after making a huge imprint on the Manitoba Bisons women's soccer program as a player during her illustrious five-year university career (2005-09). Her career playing highlights with Canada includes being part of Olympic team that won a bronze medal in 2012 and a starter role during the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015.

The Winnipeg native resume is vast as she was selected as 2012 Manitoba's Female Athlete of the Year by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. The 2009-10 Bison Sports Female Athlete of the Year, Scott earned four total conference All-Star recognition (First Team: 2008, 2009; Second Team: 2005, 2006) along with being named 2005 Canada West Rookie of the Year plus 2009, 2008 CIS First Team All-Canadian. The midfielder has registered the most points and assists in a Bison career with 56 points (31 goals, 25 assists) in 64 conference regular season games while team MVP three times (2005, '06, '10). Scott also was part of the Bison women's soccer coaching staff during the 2011 and 2012 season.
